Re: "There's only one reason the government forces citizens to register their automobiles! To Confiscate Them!!! LOL!!!"

Here I am jumping into an OT debate!!

Let me remind you that there is no constitutional provision guaranteeing the right to own a car. I can't help but wonder how the public would react if we were required to be licensed to read books, or speak freely or attend church. I mean, after all, some of those books may be dangerous and people sometimes say harmful things. We can't let just anyone read or speak now can we? You should be trained and licensed to assure you don't use the information unsafely.

Might I also ask by what principle did we allow freedom of speech to apply to technology that didn't exist at the time the constitution was written, such as radio and television, yet not extend the right to keep firearms, to more advanced weapons?

BTW I haven't used a firearm in about 30 years and couldn't care less. I'm just concerned about the principle.

Gee, let's see, perhaps it'll help keep guns out of the hands of people who misuse them, or traffic illegally in them?

There are tens of thousands of gun control laws. None of them are very effective at keeping guns out the the hands of people who traffic illegally in them. Criminals can get guns, only the law abiding will be stopped by gun control laws.

You were on the subject of gun registration.

The supremes have already decided that failure to register an illegal gun(or a gun owned illegally) is not a crime, since the registration would be an admission of guilt -- therefore self incrimination.

Only legally owned guns must be registered. Failure to register a legally owned gun is a crime, since it is not self incrimination.

This is sure to keep guns out of the hands of people who misuse them, isn't it?

If only legal guns, legally owned must be registered, what is the purpose?
