Ted, revenues were up 6% vs. the year ago quarter, flat vs. Q4-00.

Tony

Ed. Here's why the said GMs will be down:

** Gross margin percentage in the first quarter of 2001 is expected to be 58 percent, plus or minus a couple of points, down from 63 percent in the fourth quarter primarily due to lower revenue.

tejek, Re: Given all the gloom and doom, I was surprised that revenues were up 6% sequentially this quarter; I was expecting them to be flat.

Ted,

Mary was pushing for conservative guidance so that intel could easily beat expectations.

On the GM's. As revenues decline, gross margins go down with them because of fixed costs. That, and i'm sure Intel's see's a more competitive market, more processor's chasing fewer PC's.

The strangest thing for me, is their lack of visibility. Intel has always sounded confident in their guidance, now they have all sorts of disclaimers. It sounds like they don't know what the blank is going to happen in the next three months.

The other thing is the cap ex. Impressive. Good or bad, only time will tell.
