Fact is that Democrats are interested in passing warm and fuzzy sounding laws more than taking the guns away from criminals. They want a lot of "feel good", action is unimportant.

Mere possession of guns isn't the problem. Look at Israel and Switzerland, everyone has a gun, yet they don't have the homicide rates we do.

We need to take guns away from criminals. Existing laws enable that. We just need to apply them.

Hey, my wife's a teacher and I'd damn well rather see her armed than depend on all these feel good laws that quite obviously do no good. Come up with something that surpasses the logic of prohibition and the drug war and I might listen. Wouldn't want to educate (real hands on instruction) kids about guns, that would be too much reality for everyone, like taking them on a tour of the morgue and skid row.

Complete baloney. The NRA supports only responsible gun ownership, commerce, and use. It teaches kids to stay away from guns. You may not realize it but this is your freedom we're talking about here, fella.

<<They bring them to schools, and shoot their classmates and teachers. They get them through the mail, and at gun shows, with ease. The NRA openly supports their ability to do so.

Get a grip, Kevin. You can give up your right to defend yourself and your family, but don't tell me what I can/should do in that respect. A couple of laughers from your post:

"They (kids) get them (guns) through the mail"
Where and how often do you think this happens? I know in CA it is against the law to buy fire-arms through the mail. I think it is so throughout the U.S. Please correct me if I am wrong, and show your sources with statistics for how many guns that kids buy through the mail.

"The NRA openly supports their ability to do so."
The NRA does not openly support selling guns to children through the mail or at gun shows. That sounds like a flat out lie to me. Please reference your source for this opinion of yours. What they do is protect our 2nd ammendment right, which you feel is unimportant I guess.

"Fantasy: guns don't kill people"
How does an adult (assuming you are one) come to this conclusion. Fact: People kill people. I have never heard of a case where a gun killed someone on its own.

"Fact is that the Republican platform supports the NRAs position on this, making them guilty by close association."
It is very good that the republican party believes in the 2nd amendment. If they didn't then people with your backwards logic would prevail and the liberal democrats would succeed in their effort to disarm honest law abiding citizens. I want to protect my family and our country in the unlikely event of some kind of national crisis. Feel free to choose hand to hand combat if you ever do need to protect your family, but don't try to strip me of my rights.

Food for thought. How about working on the issues that cause people to want to kill each other instead of going after the tool that they use to do it? I realize that is a tough order and that liberal politicians and citizens would have to change their mindset from symbolic gestures that make THEM feel good, but I believe it would be best for the country. Just being tougher on the criminals and encouraging law abiding citizens to stand up to crime would be a good start. Taking away our constitutional right to protect ourselves will not work. That is REALITY.
