Other computer manufacturers, including Epson Direct and Packard Bell, are expected to offer new notebook PCs featuring the mobile AMD Athlon XP processor later this quarter. So we have one Japanese OEM that has announced notebooks based on Thoroughbred. We have two other, relatively small OEMs that are expected to offer Thoroughbreds sometime this quarter (June, 30th?).In addition, a low power version of the mobile AMD Athlon XP processor, with a new micro Pin Grid Array (uPGA) packaging, is sampling now and expected to enable AMD to address the thin-and-light notebook market. So AMD even admits that the "real" new mobile Thoroughbred is still not ready and won't allow AMD to get new design wins in the low power mobile space (e.g. thin and light).Production shipments of the mobile AMD Athlon XP processors, including models 1400+ and 1500+, began in first quarter of 2002. Notebook PCs based on the mobile AMD Athlon XP processor, models 1600+ and 1700+, are expected to be available later this quarter. That means AMD only shipped low frequency parts in March (up to 1.33 GHz -- bin-split problems?) and expects to ship higher speed Thoroughbred later this quarter. The new mobile AMD Athlon XP processor starts at $190 for model 1400+, in 1,000-unit quantities. $190, that's great for ASPs -- NOT. So much for Thoroughbred lifting ASPs in Q2. Bottom line: Paper launch just before announcing Q1 earnings. I fear for the worst. Andreas
