David its a matter of trust. They don't trust Bush and imagine that he is using this proposal to just clear cut more forest.

I'm not saying that they are right but you wondered why they opposed the plan, and I think that is the reason.

David, I think the question over forestry shows exactly how illogical the environmentalists really are. Even the upcoming U.N. summit on the environment (or has it passed already) mentioned that most of the world's deforestation happens in Africa and South America, NOT the United States.

Meanwhile, fire is destroying more American forests than logging can ever hope to destroy. And you know what some environmentalists say to this? "Fine, that's Mother Nature's way of clearing out old growth. Don't mess with it." No joke; I heard a guy featured on a radio talk show who said exactly this. Fortunately, some environmental groups aren't this illogical, but that's not going to stop the stubborn wackos who fear losing credibility over their pet issues.

The liberals' perspective on this subject is difficult for me to understand. It is well-established that controlled management of forests is a POSITIVE thing for the environment, NOT a NEGATIVE thing. Are the opposing this measure solely on political grounds?

foxnews.com;

Not hard to understand at all. We don't trust Bush. His friends are the loggers, not the environmentalists. Besides, he comes from TX, a state not know for conservation and concern with the environment.
