i don't use outlook, but in netscape email client, it's as simple as right-clicking the subject header and selecting Delete from the menu.

does that option exist for you?

in netscape, there's actually a little more to it, involving preview panes, but once the panes are arranged properly, the right-click process does not open the mail, but instead displays the delete menu item.

someone with outlook will help, i'm sure

Just highlight it (the message you don't want to open) and hit the delete button on the toolbar (if you don't use the toolbar, go to edit and then delete)

Nemer, delete e-mail without opening in OE: unselect 'preview' on the tool bar. Now, arriving e-mail will show up as one line with sender and subject and must be double clicked to open. To permanently delete, highlight it and hit shift-delete.

To remove the preview pane....everyone should do this...the preview pane is asking for trouble...go up to View/Layout and uncheck the "preview pane" box. Then your OE will open to your inbox and you can right-click each message and delete or click the message and hit your delete button on the keyboard. If you're not sure what to do with the message you can right-click it and go to properties. From there go to details/message source and you can read any message without fear of infection. You will be looking at what you would see if the message opened in notepad and nothing can be triggered.
