EXPOSED: DUBYA’S TERMINATOR SECRET

Bush, Rove Behind CA Recall, Schwarzo Run -- White House Running Republican Power Grab

In what amounts to an attempt to expand its coup d’etat of 2000 to California, the Bush White House is deeply involved in the "recall" power grab and the bid by celebrity candidate and G.O.P. non-entity Arnold Schwarzenegger to topple the state’s democratically elected governor, Gray Davis, sources reveal.

Until now, it has been widely reported only that San Diego’s right-wing gazillionaire Congressman Darrell Issa paid for the "recall," using his money to corrupt and exploit an old democratic maneuver into the latest Republican effort to overthrow American democracy. But now that Issa had dropped out of the race to replace Governor Davis, and Schwarzo has jumped in, the long-in-the-works White House plan has revealed itself fully.

At the heart of the plot is, of course, none other than Bush’s brain, Karl Rove.

The Rove - Bush team had hoped that the Terminator would run against Davis in 2002. As early as April 2001, according to the New York Times, Rove-Bush political operatives met with Schwarzo to encourage him to run. “That would be nice,” Rove said when asked about the prospect of a Governor Schwarzenegger. "That would be really, really nice."

Schwarzo, as it happened, backed off; the GOP ended up running one of its even wackier right-wingers, and Davis was re-elected. This made the Republicans extremely angry, sources tell MWO. Since the days of Richard Nixon and then Ronald Reagan, the GOP has assumed that the Golden State rightfully belongs to them. It doesn’t anymore – but they will not have it that way.

And so, after the 2002 election, the White House went into overdrive on a plan to topple Governor Davis in defiance of the clear will of the California electorate.

The plan was ingenious. First, turn the looting of California by Dubya’s buddies at Enron to the White House’s advantage and blame Davis for the energy crisis that hit California a little while back. Remember "Kenny Boy" Lay and the rest of the Enron thieves? Well, except for a few fall guys, they’re all still sitting pretty – and now, cleverly, the White House had decided to make Gray Davis one of the fall guys. Second, blame Davis for the collapse of the dotcom boom and the drying up of federal funds that has come with Dubya’s tax cut for his rich corporate sponsors. Third, get the Republicans in the California state legislature to block the two-thirds majority needed to pass the state’s budget – and then demonize Davis as the perpetrator.

Enron, Tax Cuts, Obstructionism: it’s Bush’s latest political trifecta! Or so the White House is hoping and scheming.

Who, in California, has been coordinating the "recall" power-grab? Why, according to the Sacramento Bee, it’s none other that Bush’s chief California political operative, financier Gerry Parksy."

Bush isn’t staying entirely out of the election," the Bee reported, with astonishing understatement, on July 30.
"His liaison in California, businessman Gerald Parksy, summoned representatives of potential Republican candidates to his office Tuesday to discuss how the GOP would help recall Davis." Reliable sources report that Parsky, a close friend of Dubya’s and huge campaign contributor, reports directly to Karl Rove.

Joining Parsky, straight out of Karl Rove’s office, is long-time Bush strategist and Rove minion Mindy Tucker.

According to a GOP campaign memo obtained by the San Francisco Chronicle, "Mindy Tucker, former Bush campaign spokesperson and current Bush campaign operative in California, has the blessings of the White House…" The memo went on to describe in detail Tucker’s intense involvement in "recall" strategizing and GOP "image enhancing." Tucker confirmed to the Chronicle that she is working with the White House’s full approval.

Not all of the Bush ops have been laboring on Schwarzo's behalf this time around.

Noelia Rodriguez, Laura Bush’s press secretary and a former Los Angeles deputy mayor has for one, been working hard in California on behalf of former mayor Richard Riordan’s effort to topple Gray, according to the Los Angeles Times and the New York Times.

But, lo and behold, now Riordan has dropped out along with Issa!

The signs are pretty clear, veteran California political observers tell MWO, that Schwarzo is Rove’s – and thus Bush’s – main man in this race, just as he has been their main man in California for years.

What we didn’t know, until now, is that the entire "recall" effort, let alone Schwarzo’s bid, is being run out of Karl Rove’s office.

First "impeachment," then Florida 2000 and Bush v. Gore, now this. The Republicans have emerged fully as the political party that will seize power even if doesn’t win the most votes! But that’s just MWO’s take on things.

The White House masterminding of the California "recall" power-grab – well, that’s not a matter of opinion, it’s a matter of record. But it’s strange, isn’t it, that nobody in the American media is pointing that out with any clarity or forcefulness, even though it’s all there to be understood in the New York Times, the Los Angeles Times, the San Francisco Chronicle, and the Sacramento Bee.

The media getting the "recall" story straight. Now THAT would be nice. Really, really nice.

Glenn,

Here's an imminently sensible plan written by Lawrence Lessig for California that won't be adopted:

<Some Text Deleted....>

Yet it is one thing to have a bad clause in a constitution. It is quite another to rely upon it to become the Governor of a state as important as California. Whether Republican or Democrat, there is something deeply wrong about taking advantage of a constitutional mistake to become governor of one the most important states in the nation.

I can’t understand why the Democrats, or at least why the Davis supporters, don’t make this point clear. And more importantly, I can’t understand why Governor Davis doesn’t at least nominate a protest candidate — a candidate who says (1) this election is wrong, and (2) whether you like Davis or not, you should vote not to recall him on the basis of a constitutional mistake, and (3) after you vote not to recall him, you should vote for the protest candidate. That candidate would promise not to run for reelection — or for any office in California, since no one should benefit politically from a constitutional mistake — but would hold the governorship “in trust” until we have another election where the candidate with the most votes wins.

One might say, who could possibly resist such a loophole. That whether it is honorable or not, what politician would forgo the chance to become President or Governor, regardless of the means?

Yet we should remember that many believe that Nixon made essentially this choice when he refused to fight the results in Illinois and thus let Kennedy become President. In his moral universe, that’s not how an executive should become an executive.

It is a measure of this Enronera that neither our President nor over 200 candidates in this California recall election live up to the moral standards of even Richard Nixon. By whatever means, they will claim power.
