<<France is an historic ally. I think it is a tremendous dis-service to our country to portray France as an enemy>>

Perhaps we had common goals in the past, but France has had goals quite opposed to ours for most of the last 40 years.

Saddam would have fallen a long time ago without the support of our enemies in France. We would not have needed to depose of Saddam if France, Germany, Russia and Turkey were not subverting our UNSC objectives.

Get real, this is not 1942.

Does Saddam Hussein have friends on the UNSC?

That must be a joke. Do you think Iraq is more important to either Russia or France than the United States.

Hell yes. They felt no threat to their trade with the US, nor should they, it's still going on. In case you haven't noticed, these countries are our rivals, not our allies. The billions they could have gotten from Saddam would have been a pure benefit to them. Any poke in the eye that they could deliver to the US would be a benefit to them, too. How else do you explain their last-ditch scramble to protect Saddam in 2002 - 2003? France, Russia and China were openly opposed to the sanctions and were working to lift them. Read this article and then let's talk about how well sanctions were working. Your notions simply do not tally with reality.

France is doing a VERY good job of protraying themselves as our enemy. All one has to do is open one's eyes.

France is an historic ally. I think it is a tremendous dis-service to our country to portray France as an enemy.

How would you have suggested this happen? After you finally realized of course, that the UN, after 17 Resolutions, was going to do nothing?

What would you have done?

Could we have waited and formulated a better plan to restructure Iraq after getting rid of Saddam Hussein?

Could we have gotten more international support and gotten the international community to share the cost in terms of money and human resources?

Excellent Post Mary....Excellent..And To The Point.

But don't believe you will ever get the " Kill Saddam Now " fanatical True Believers here to give these thoughts rational consideration.

We went down this road ...before...during..and after the Bushtz-creg on Iraq , and no matter how logical the argument, and no matter how wrong they were , and no matter how totally UGLY things got , they stuck with their faith.

And they call others " fanatics ".

LOL!
