War on terrorism = War on Islamic Fundamentalism.

That may be a good definition for Jim, but for Bush that would lead his war into Saudi Arabia and Pakistan.

There really is no surrigate for Al Qaeda. Bush has two agendas that he wants to stuff into one war. The first agenda is Al Qaeda, but the second is the middle east. The first is being practicly ignored as all the resources are sucked up by the second. The problem with the second is that it is taboo. Bush cannot say what he really wants in the middle east. The second agenda cannot be won if the goal cannot be stated.

(Just writing that reminds me of a project a couple years ago where nobody could clearly state what the end product was supposed to accomplish. Needless to say that failed too.)

Re <<War on terrorism = War on Islamic Fundamentalism>>

What a dim-witted statement if you believe Bush's argument for the Iraq war!

Iraq under Saddam had nothing in common with the "Islamic fundamentalism". Saudi Arabia, our "ally", and to a lesser degree Pakistan and Iran are a much better fit.

It is really not very complicated. Saddam was an evil dictator who oppressed, terrorized and murdered Iraqi people. Any other statement justifying the war is dishonest, regardless of how many times it is recited.

Tenchusatsu, RE: "War on Islamic Fundamentalism"

I'll put humor aside now, I really, really need to confirm you actually had equated the war on terrorism to be a war on the basic principles of Islam and people practising Islam, rather than a war focused on violent, Islamic extremists?

Please tell me you didn't mean to. It's not your style to generalize extremists to 1.5B other people, so something here doesn't make sense.

How many close Muslim friends (that are religious) do you have and have you shared this perspective with him or her and what was their reaction or thoughts?

On a different note, why are you against removing violence out of all religions?

Mindmeld said he thought removing violence was a good idea, yet you said "careful." Don't you think it is inconsistent to want violent material to be removed only from Islamic material, but not Christian material?
