Just take a deep breath and try to remember what's important. Friends are important. Be nice to each other

Exhaling... I merely questioned whether the poster had verbally expressed the same feelings if his country's flag was treated in such a manner.

BTW, there are few people in America who fought (and died) for this country, its flag and its citizens. Some of them may be okay with it being stomped and burned. Others of us are not. There are many ways to disagree with our government's policies without burning the flag.

CB, you do write such sensible things so often. Thanks for some more lucidity on flags being pieces of cloth, bibles and korans being paper, and crosses being bits of wood.

I was somewhat shocked to see Tobago Jack referring to the Chinese guy who is seeking asylum in Oz as a "human slug". Now there are a few of them! That seemed out of character. I wonder whether for all your vituperative rage at times, you don't have a much more civil mindset than TJ's cynical racism espoused in "human slug selling his kin".

Reading Yiwu the Mad and Bubba the Bigot's rantings, is somewhat scary. I see racist megalomania. We all know where that leads. I am happy to pay my taxes to King George II to keep some aircraft carriers sailing and all those other military gadgets lined up.

"No taxation without representation". I might not be happy for very long.

Cobalt, I expect better of you then that. The Flag is not JUST a piece of cloth. It is a SYMBOL of our Nation, of ourselves and everything we stand for. When one desecrates it, one is actually desecrating YOU, ME, ISH and all the rest here that are American. Why do you suppose they go to the effort to desecrate it? But, EVEN SO, while I consider anyone who does so to be an ASSHOLE even that isnt what enraged me so. It was what they said RIGHT HERE in our midst and we are SUPPOSED TO SMILE and BEAR IT. Sorry, I JUST CANT DO THAT. jdn
