"That's how we, ultimately, win this war against Islamic militancy Michael. We must act as a force for promoting reform and economic/political diversity within the region."

Tried and failed in iraq. So we cower at the thought that 70mm pakistanis will somehow hate us more if we take out bin laden with special ops on pakistani soil. I think it would be a good thing and it will take a long time for another charismatic leader with connections would arise. That will give us more time to do the democracy/good govt/capitalism gambit more effectively in the mideast and without using war to attain those objectives.

If 70M Paks already agree with OBL, what difference does it really make if we kill him?

And Michael, my friend, the head of the snake lies within Saudi Arabia. It is the location where this Wahabbist/Salafist/Takfirist/Jihadist (pick a label, any label.. ) religious militancy derives..
Agree.

And that's going to be a long-term battle that can only be won (without tremendous loss of life) by promoting reforms within the Mid-East that forces the Saudi clerics to moderate their religious stance.

That's how we, ultimately, win this war against Islamic militancy Michael. We must act as a force for promoting reform and economic/political diversity within the region.

How many centuries did it take to reach this point in Christianity? How many millions were killed along the way? What percentage of the Christian population was that? What percentage would it be now? (Speaking of tremendous loss of life.)
