E.g. Brumar, Hawk and I guess you, feel we should do nothing about global warming as it is just a hoax to you guys. Just forget about it and don't worry about nuclear weapons or the spread of lead, mercury and radiation or pollution in general.

Why do you persist in posting silly nonsense such as this? Do you think that everyone who is sceptical about carbon dioxide emissions having an apocalyptic effect on the global climate, therefore doesn't "worry about nuclear weapons" or is in favor of "the spread of lead, mercury and radiation or pollution in general"?

Ideological stereotyping is not only stupid, but a waste of time. A "neener, neener, I'm 100% right and you're 100% wrong" attitude accomplishes nothing, when coming from either side of a debate, as does setting up a straw man argument and then bashing away at it..

We absolutely should do nothing at this point. We have no good reason to think human caused global warming is a serious problem. And if it were there's essentially nothing we could do about it anyway since whatever we do as a nation will be rendered meaningless by the actions of other nations.

Just forget about it

Study it and stop worrying.

and don't worry about nuclear weapons or the spread of lead, mercury and radiation or pollution in general.

Nuclear proliferation is a serious problem and we should be putting the screws to Iran to stop them from developing nukes. Its unfortunate both that Bush did nothing here and that Obama seems likely to continue that course.

Other issues of pollution, we've been addressing and should continue to do so.

My hope is that the differences between us are just a matter of education and sanity

My God, I hope so too.

"My hope is that the differences between us are just a matter of education and sanity and as our civilization continues to become more educated, and learns how to identify and establish sane and educated people, en mass, the worlds democracies will make better decisions going forward."

My education and life experience is technical. I understand what it takes to make a light switch turn a light on. I understand first and second derivatives. My knowledge says you guys are nuts. If you are right it is too late. If you are wrong on timing - I suspect you are wrong on everything.

Re the last 8 years. I thought and expressed repeatedly that Bush was fiscally irresponsible. I am sure you felt the same. Now we have fiscal irresponibility on steroids - but now you do not see it. I suspect your judgements are all political and emotion. I have little respect for the basis of your though processes. You are inconsistent and intellectually dishonest.

Bob

Hey.. would love to see all of those problems resolved. But when it comes to pollution and GG's, the US isn't the problem anymore.

You want reality?? Look at China and India, as well as the rest of the developing world. Ask your S-I-L how he proposes to halt the massive increase in Coal-fired plants in China and India??

Ask him how he's going to stop them from buying fossil fueled powered cars and trucks?

They certainly can't afford all that nifty alternative stuff y'all are proposing. They require cheap power and coal is it.

All we can hope to do is mitigate the problem, adapt, and prepare to implement geo-engineering solutions when we find our lives in danger.

But we aren't in any danger of becoming extinct so far (except, perhaps, a meteor or galactic gamma burst), so maybe you should just chill out, monitor and collect data.

Build the case for the conclusions you've already arrive at.
