Doug--you know that edge polishing reduces the debris on the
surface and in the environment for polishing the surface. Ipec
today made the announcement quoting Roger Mc Daniel. He used to be on their board, I believe.

Company Press Release

Ferrofluidics Reaches Agreement in Principle, to Supply $9 Million of Crystal Puller Systems

NASHUA, N.H.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 15, 1998--Ferrofluidics Corporation (NASDAQ:FERO - news) today announced that it had reached agreement in principle to supply $9 million of 200mm crystal puller systems to a major international wafer manufacturer for its US operations. Deliveries are to begin in the fourth quarter of the Company's current fiscal year.

These systems represent the third phase of cooperation under a development agreement, in which the Company and it's customer have collaborated to preserve the proprietary nature of the partner's process while utilizing the best features of the Company's design. The Company is scheduled to begin shipping units to the customer's site under the second phase of the cooperation agreement during the current quarter.

Salvatore J. Vinciguerra, President and Chief Executive Officer of Ferrofluidics stated, ''The importance of this relationship goes well beyond the dollar value of the contract. We have worked hard over the last three years to diversify our customer base and to establish relationships which would result in repeat production orders. This is one of a growing number of such relationships. Furthermore, this agreement helps in filling production needs for the fourth quarter of our current fiscal year.''

This news release contains forward-looking statements. There are certain factors that could cause actual results to differ materially from those anticipated by the statements made above. These include, but are not limited to, the possibility that an order might not be placed following the agreement in principle and that shipments in the fourth quarter of this fiscal year may not materialize.

Ferrofluidics is the pioneer and world leader in Ferrofluidic technology, as well as an international leader in the design, manufacture and sale of crystal growing systems for the semiconductor wafer industry. Founded in 1968 and based in Nashua, New Hampshire, Ferrofluidics has established technical support facilities throughout the United States, as well as in Germany, the United Kingdom, Italy, France, Japan, Korea and Taiwan.
