I am guessing that <<dry stone walls>> has at least one characteristic, that any dampness present due to presence of groundwater can rise if at all only to the first layer of stones on the ground and no further as there be no capillary action possible between the stones given lack of mortar
the site does not offer any description of the solution, as it is a work in early process even as already applied in enough places but am looking into the matter driway.com
Re <<Socialism ... sense of community>>, maybe what is actually going on is the honour system, borne of the people, a social construct, as opposed to the political schema given rise by deliberate design of a few
dunno. watch & brief.
Re <<remember this is Scotland. I will try and be there though>>
There is a time for everything.
I get the feeling, even as it is none of my business, that you might do well to consider getting two puppies, or one puppy and one kitten, or two kittens. Of course such would add complication to any plans for meandering far away from home base.
Is your next door neighbour next door w/i 30 sec walk or at some distance? How do you, if you do, intend to meet them in any systematic way? Church? Volunteering work?
When my family and I undertook our planned 30-days stay in Cape Town, the alacrity with which I agreed instantly to my wife's suggestion surprised her for normally I am the stay-at-home type unless I veer to go-go-go-away type. I alternate, not by season, and not by age. I just alternate.
I explained to her I always whilst on vacations fantasised about "what would I do if I had to stay here forever", and many times the times were on some relatively small island that really only exist as tourist and farming / fishing economy. I said I wished the kids to learn "how" whilst we can teach them.
But because I was figuring ('planning' would be too grand a word) a simple 30-days stay starting 1st March Message 32576509 during which we shall depend on Team Uber as opposed to me driving here there everywhere in unfamiliar and potentially dangerous geography, I did not bother to renew my International Driving License, and I did not bring my HK License.
The trip started uneventful Message 32576578 after one year of street actions in HK and early days / incipient proto-pandemic protocol in same HK, before same washed over in N America.
I enunciated fateful words upon arrival in Cape Town AirBnB abode Message 32578317 <<Things may work out differently than I reckon. We shall have to wait n see. ... very quiet>> and I left out, out of politeness, 'too quiet'.
Quickly after arrival I reiterated what I often do, that Message 32579437
more <Imperatives give rise to solutions> Before setting off on this journey mostly for the good of the kids to take advantage of a bad, worsening situation and set them up to discover by rapid agile deployment, airlift, and paradrop into different society, and see how quickly they can transplant, I was concerned about one and only one item, that I shall have to endure a month of reflexology-free ' foot massageless' Those days the CoVid news-flows were almost all-China Message 32582856 and it was mostly 'a problem out there, somewhere'. We in Cape Town only remotely followed what might be happening. S Africa was fine.
and we had pitifully little preparedness Message 32583394 of a few satchels of anti-flu tea, for what did we think the worst could possibly be?
By March 5th S Africa reported in and the world CoVid map looked so Message 32586049 "first case" and we remained somewhere between complacent Message 32587118 to very complacent Message 32587222 to extremely complacent Message 32589255
