hi Holly, This media obsession with the President's personal life parallels what has been going on for years in Britain with their Royal Family. As the media intrudes more and more on the personalities of our leaders it tends to trivialize the institutions they represent. I don't know what long-term damage can result from undermining the Presidency but I can guess it won't be positive.

Maybe if Clinton hadn't been strongly suspected of lying under oath, his own Attorney General wouldn't feel obligated to investigate him. Has it occurred to you that what you are witnessing is this administration imploding under its own corruption? Mrs. Clinton will next claim that a right-wing conspiracy conned Bill into appointing Janet Reno.

What's unbelievably unbelievable is that Clinton has so far personally escaped an indictment.

I agree that this whole thing is distracting, but it's not only distracting. It's also made Clinton look weak and vulnerable. As our allies in Europe ponder whether or not Clinton would lie under oath to a jury, then lie directly to the American people, they probably are wondering how much they should support him. Perhaps they're wondering if Clinton plans on standing by agreements that he, as a representative of the USA, made with them as countries.

I think this mess Clinton has got himself into is the reason why so very few countries will agree to support our enforcement of inspections in Iraq. Our country now looks weak to the rest of the world.

What's getting tiring though, is people (mainly Clinton supporters) trying to change the subject and say they don't think we should be investigating Clinton's sex life. But his sex life is not the issue. The issue is that the Clinton administration has shown that in this, as in all the past scandals, is probably covering up, lying, etc. The following is a very brief mention of some of the abuses tied directly to this administration (in no particular order):

Health Care Task Force: Clinton Health Care czar Ira Magaziner lied to the court, according to Judge Lambert on 12-18-97: The government "should be accountable when its officials run amok," the judge wrote, adding that the Executive Branch "was dishonest with this court".

White House Travel Office: Billy Dale indicted on charges of embezzling office funds on 12-07-94.

900 FBI files improperly obtained by White House personnel security chief Craig Livingstone. 2 days after Livingstone resigned on 6-26-96, his assistant Anthony Marceca refused to testify before the House Oversight Committee, invoking the Fifth Amendment.

In March of 1993, Webster Hubbell is installed as the Justice Dept "liason" to the White House. On Dec. 6 1993, Hubbell pled guilty to two felony fraud charges, and goes to prison.

Whitewater: On 5-28-96, Ken Starr wins conviction of Gov. Tucker and Jim and Susan McDougal for bank fraud and conspiracy related to Madison Guaranty S&L. [there's Hillary's conspiracy]. On 9-04-97, Susan McDougal refused to answer whether Clinton was aware of the illegal loan at the heart of the Madison fraud and whether he (Clinton) testified truthfully at her trial. Susan was jailed on contempt of court charges, and remains incarcerated today.

In Jan. 1998, a Justice task force indicted Charlie Trie (longtime Clinton friend) on campaign finance abuses. Trie had fled the country along with others. Still others had pled the Fifth amendment. This issue began in early 1996, but Janet Reno has refused to appoint an independent counsel.

Regarding the suicide of Clinton personal attorney Vince Foster: On 7-22-93 (two days after the suicide), White House Counsel Bernard Nussbaum denied senior Justice Dept. officials access to Foster's office. On the evening of Foster's death, according to later testimony by a Secret Service officer, White House Aide Maggie Williams exited the counsel's office with an "armful" of folders.

Hey, I haven't even mentioned Gennifer Flowers, Paula Jones and Monica Lewinsky. Do you get it now? This isn't about Lewinsky, or Clinton's sex life. It's about continued patterns of abuses of power, corruption, cover-up, and "government run amok".

And yes, I believe that right now, the grand jury now hearing testimony in the Lewinsky affair probably is convinced that Clinton lied under oath to the Paula Jones legal team. What happens next, who knows.

The above laundry list of crimes was taken from the WSJ today.
