E> Re. "Does anyone know if this is OEMed from Adaptec, or if it uses Adaptec's Firewire chip?"

Possibly, as suggested by the following news release of a year ago:

"April 7, 1997- The combination of Apple's 1394 operating system extension and Adaptec's AHA-8940 1394-to-PCI host adapter and software means Power Macintosh computer users can now experience DV quality multimedia and video on their desktops. The 1394 software from Adaptec interfaces with the standard Applee QuickTime software and provides complete compatibility with current QuickTime compatible video editing applications.

"Adaptec has developed sophisticated DV software components which will help 1394 to quickly become the key standard for high quality professional non-linear editing," according to Phil Schiller, Apple Vice President for Desktop and Server Product Marketing. "With advanced multimedia I/O technologies like Apple's 1394 and third-party solutions, the Power Macintosh remains the new-media authoring platform of choice."

Microsoft and Apple are on the same page about Firewire. It's a standard and it is the next generation. Don't let anyone convince you otherwise; it's a fact now, not some vaporware. I just saw a Firewire product; it's a video editing package; high-end professional stuff and makes it possible to do great in the computer video work. It only works with Firewire; there is no other interface available. This is just the start. I'll work on getting the name of the exact product; just read about it in one of the latest computer retail catalogs. I think it was either PC Connections or PC Mall.

Some interesting action in LEAP PUTs today...

300 Jan 2001 10 PUTs went across at 1 5/16

and

100 Jan 2001 15 PUTs at 3 1/2

Assuming ADPT closes above 15 in Jan 2001, someone made themselves a nice $60,000 :)
