Paul,

We could very well be seeing INtel and MSFT detaching if for no other reason than to try and "fool" the DOJ. MSFT backs the Alpha with CPQ and Intel back Novell. Think about it:

MSFT backs an alternate chip and INTC backs an alternate NOS.. perfect politics (just what the politicians need to see too IMFUO).

Paul,

Is Intel detaching from Wintel? Intel and Novell to announce partnership.

No, that is not a detachment. Novell, Apple, Intuit, Borland are simply walking carcasses. Novell is simply one of many victims that had got in MSFT's path. Novell is no longer a threat to MSFT and like Apple they can now be of some use to MSFT with respect to the FTC. As for Intel, my guess is it doesn't really matter, but of course Intel isn't going to say no to anyone wishing to use its chips.

Windows CE was a detachment, but I thing the two giants have since reconciled. JMO
