Lawrence, instead of tearing into Yogi, who often contributes some really nice ideas, and is a gentleman as well, could you turn your attention to the Fed rate cut yesterday?

What is your view on the current market outlook? Does the rate cut (the second in a very short time-frame, and the first intermeeting rate cut since April 1994) mean the stock market has already bottomed?

Granted, the Fed doesn't control the stock market directly, but people usually think the Fed can have a powerful influence on it.

Regards,

Larry

Lawrence;

<<Microsoft got where it is today etc etc etc>>

All that etc etc that I just referenced I found to be quite a geek beak full. I didn't know you had it in you. By the way...I have been trying to find my "proper sociological context" for years. The closest I come is anachronistic.

Best,
Stitch

Lawrence,
<<Careful, you're showing your age. There probably isn't a single college student in this country without an e-mail account. Why?>>

Um, because its free and a way cool way to order pizza?

LK,
Re: Microsoft. Much as I hate to admit it, you are right. As I look around my office I see nothing but Microsoft products. The reason I bought them all was because they work well together and do the job I want done.
I fear my rant was brought on by setting up new systems for my business and configuring a new computer for my personal use. Ran into some massive roadblocks that turned out to be more a product of my own ignorance than Microsoft's complications. Its tough to admit your not as good as you thought you were. Mea Culpa.

Lawrence, you said >Old fuddy-duddies may think the computer
is too complicated and powerful.
<

Anecdotal evidence to the contrary: my 3 nearest neighbors are
retired (or semi-retired) and ALL have recently taken to the
internet in a big way. In fact, that's what we talk about now
instead of aphid infestations. :)

You need to meet more fuddy-duddies.

Re: rant

A nice diatribe.

I agree that Macs are overrated.
I agree that Microsoft's products are ... eventually ... superior. (After they rip off all the innovative features from competitors.)
I agree Word is a nice word processor (although it COULD be MUCH better--without competitors innovating new features, it's now stagnant, just like Excel.)
I agree Outlook Express is a decent piece of work, with a nice price. (Although it crashes sporadically when following embedded hyperlinks.)

However, I'll take a different turn on the browser issue. Personally I think BOTH browsers are utter dogs**t. If Navigator 4 is the best Nutscrape could come up with after years and years ... let them eat hot LEAD. And following my argument above, IE can't get better if Nutscrape or other browser builders don't come up with cool features for MS to rip off. <g> On second thought, maybe NS intentionally stopped browser innovation since they figured MS was just going to steal it anyway.
