Three items of note from the Vancouver Sun.

1. Apparently, the Vancouver Stock Exchange (called by Barron's in 1987 the scam capital of the world) has tightened up its reporting and disclosure regulations to the point where the paper artists have moved on to greener pastures. Guess which exchange most of them have gone to.

2. Maylasia has strong growth again, Japan recorded its first growth month in 2 years and the Hong Kong exchange is at an eight month high. Asia might be turning around.

3. Demand for Canadian resource sector products jumped in the last week, pushing up the base metal index particularly.

There might be some real undiscovered gems on the VSE....

Really good post on the biotechs, Mike. I've not been following them so this kind of synopsis is valuable to me.

And I liked the "sea of red" allusion too!

Genomics stocks--a followup to a post from a
few weeks ago...

Since I last entered a little summary on the stock
price movement in this category of stocks...we have
seen not a lot of change--the winners kept running,
the losers kept falling...and the boring stocks in
this category--well they've stayed pretty boring.

(The reference/url to which I am referring is in the
post to which this is linked) or if you're curious
go directly to my last genomics post here:
Message 7246797

And here is the followup:
GENXY still continus to give ground, now 21 1/2 it has
fallen through most of the 20's slow and steady.

MYGN, ENZ, HGSI, GENE...nothing going on as far as
I can tell, stocks pretty lifeless, but steady.

AFFX had run to $30 when I'd last checked a few weeks
ago...now it's up near $40--earnings just out, loss of
30 cents, in line with expectations I'm pretty sure,
since nothing magical happened I'd expect it to give
ground now with some of the momo players cashing out.

INCY...back in mid-January this one was in the 30s,
now it's going to test $20...hard to beleive, earnings
out very soon--one to watch!

For what it is worth, if you go to the research on
Yahoo you will see a 1.4 (5,1,1,0,0) recommendation
score on Incyte--not too shabby, but down from 1.0
last week. AFFX only shows a 2.2 (0,5,1,0,0) but
that has ticked up from last week 0.1.

I'm almost far enough in to my due diligence as
they say to pick one of these genomics companies
for my portfolio. If/when I get around to making
the trade, you can be sure I'll post it. It may
not even be Incyte...but rather one of the third
tier genomic/bioinformatics/proteomic stocks--which
would be in keeping with my bottomfishing strategy.

Note that MLNM is not on my list, maybe it should
be, but it has had such a run I sort of figure it
will have a lot of profit-taking one day. There are
several other stocks which have done nothing, and
I'll get to them next post or if they show some life.

And as far as trading lately, not too much going
on for me, sitting on some things and letting them
cook--and paper trading again while the market
seems to be weak.
