***OFF TOPIC*** Re: EMKR and BTUI

At a price-to-sales of 4.9, price-to-book of 10.5, expected loss of $0.56 per share in fiscal '99, and a PE based on 2000 earnings of 38, EMKR does not appear to be in bargain territory. I do note, however, a five-year range of 40 - 110 for PE, so I guess a lot depends on how confident you are in next year's forecasts. Baseline's long-term growth forecast is 30% per year.

BTUI looks a little more bargain-like, at a price-to-sales of .45, price-to-book of 1.1, and a PE based on 1999 earnings of 14.5. LT growth forecast is 15%.

I don't know the competitive position or cash position of either company.

If you are looking for bargains in semiconductor equipment stocks, one that I have been pounding the table about is SVGI, which is still about $2.50/sh below book value. They have price-to-sales of 0.84, price-to-book of 0.96, and PE based on fiscal 2000 earnings of 25.
