Bill,

While I'm not sure that I agree with the statement 'Cisco virtually owns DSL deployments', I have to disagree with your statement that Cisco isn't selling any DMT modems. Check out this link:
cisco.com

They certainly aren't lying about DMT support. It's not wise to think that you can't make DMT products without 'off the shelf' silicon. I know that Amati communications (the guys who held all the patents on DMT - now part of TI) used to do their DMT with DSPs and ASICs. The guys that were making the chips (Motorola) were coming to THEM for the technology. My point is, if you sit around and wait for chip vendors to come out with what you need, you will be left behind...

Jay

Bill, Jay and Gary, PAIR just had its conference call, in which Cisco was mentioned as something to stay out of the way of. To wit, PAIR now avoids direct competition with Cisco on DSL installations, instead seeks out niches.

Classic case of smaller competitors expecting the worst, and leaving the center ground to the "gorilla". If Cisco isn't leading in sales now, they certainly have the easiest route to quick growth.

Best,
JS

I believe the earlier responses covered my position fairly well. As for chip-sets. The discussion was never about chipsets.. It was about DSLAM's, Modems, and embedded software. Can we move on now?
