Joe,

I agree that there are serious problems. I have tried to get get livecharts now for three day in a row and can't seem to do it in the first 40 minutes. This, of course, is when just about anyone who day trades would like to take a position. Very frustrating indeed.

Today, the applet says that it is unable to load. That's a new one. I have even offered to help them. I know one of the most seriously talented Java people around who is willing(as a consultant) to help them but they have not even responded. I guess they think that they have all of the answers. Apparently they are overly proud of what they have accomplished so far and it has gone to their heads. But they need help, IMO. I can't even imagine what their code looks like. Spaghetti anyone?

Well, they better come up with something soon or I'm out of here!!!

Qoute.com's service get's a ( D- ) rating from me,
it's down more then it's up. Somebody some day, is going to start
a chart service that works. And when that happens, Quote.com
will be out of business. They should do what ever it takes
to get there system running.
and return CUSTOMER SATISIFACTION

I had good experiences with QChart program and have upgraded to it but the live quote live chart web pages have a lot to be desired. The JAVA BS is soooooooooooooooo slow that it is worthless. The company is not do themselves and favors by keeping the site up with such problems. I am sure many look or try to and see that it's so slow that they leave saying the heck with this. Part of the problem is ( was explained to me) is that so
many other sites link "their" free delayed charting feature to quote.com thus putting way to much demand on the server. Seems there ought to be a way to put a stop to this practice. Might have been good for advertising but now ... it's having a negative affect.
I use DirectPC and these JAVA are slow (from this site <but was OK on others - SEAN>). I tried just through my land line based ISP and never even got it to load plus when that is going on it slows down the rest of my computer and connections. I hate JAVA applets I think they are "cpu hogs" I am not a programer but I think someone can come up with something better.

Takes forever to log on... if at all. Data rates as low as 278 bytes/sec on a T-1 line! They need a mirror site on the East Coast.

Joe, if you have troubling logging on, shut it down and try again and you'll probably access a different server/site. In my experience, the data rate is always around 200 300 400 bytes/sec. That seems to be all it takes to update your quotes in a speedy manor. Sites? As I understand it, they have sites all around the country. Overall, it's been very reliable for me over the few months I've been on.

The data rate shown in the status bar of Qcharts has nothing to do with our server speed. It reflects how much we need to send you to update the symbols you have active in your workspace and no more. What that shows you is how efficient our data format is - we work very well even on very slow (9600 bps) connections because of this. If you add more symbols to your workspace, you will see that rate go up. The rate will be high during busy market hours (open and close) and next to nothing when nothing is going on.

It has nothing to do with our server performance!

We did, however lose our entire east coast mirror site (herndon) last night because of a complete power outage at our Co-Location provider's site. This is the sort of thing that is never supposed to happen - they are supposed to have power backups to prevent it. They got it back up last night.

However, we had another possibly related outage at herndon this morning and everyone who was connected to the herndon servers was re-connected to mountain view. This may have caused a temporary slowdown as everyone who needed to get re-connected to mtnview got caught up during a busy market period. The system worked as it should - it dealt with a major catastrophe with a relatively minor slowdown for some users. We will work to ensure that this type of thing doesn't happen again, and we will be adding a third redundant site in the near future.

The herndon location is back up and running and the slowdown should have lasted only a few minutes.

Our LiveCharts site is still having difficulties related to its popularity and our load balancing, and some permissioning problems this morning. We have solutions in place that will alleviate the load balancing problem over the next week.

Regards,
