Boasting more than 2.6 million visitors, the drkoop.com Web site offers eight interactive communities dispensing information on topics ranging from addiction to children's health. The Web site also features interactive health tools (polls, questionnaires, information searches) and more than 100 health-related chat support groups. drkoop.com generates revenue through advertising, content syndication, and e-commerce. Chairman Koop, VC John Zaccaro, and resident and CEO Donald Hackett founded drkoop.com in 1997. Hackett owns 30% of the company.
