Company Press Release

New DiabetiSweet `Measure for Measure' Tastes and Cooks Like Real
Sugar

Eliminates Need for Other Sugar Substitutes

AMITYVILLE, New York--(BW HealthWire)--Sept. 14, 1999--New DiabetiSweet© ``Measure for Measure' is the first-ever bulk sweetener that can
completely replace sugar in baking and cooking. DiabetiSweet eliminates the need for other sugar substitutes because it tastes and cooks exactly like natural sugar,
with no aftertaste.

DiabetiSweet was developed by Health Care Products, a division of Hi-Tech Pharmacal (Nasdaq:HITK - news), the leading manufacturer of a complete line of
products for diabetes sufferers. It was formulated specifically for individuals with health conditions requiring restricted diets with reduced sodium and sugar, including
diabetes.

It is extremely difficult for diabetes sufferers to avoid sugar in their diets completely, and even other sugar substitutes require the addition of some sugar in cooking
and baking to maintain the taste and quality standards of the recipe. DiabetiSweet ``Measure for Measure' completely eliminates this need because it is the only
non-sugar bulk sweetener with a one-to-one substitution rate for natural sugar. If a recipe calls for 1/2 cup of sugar, the same amount of DiabetiSweet may be used
instead, with identical results.

The DiabetiSweet Difference

Unlike other powdered sugar substitutes, DiabetiSweet:

-- contains no saccharin or aspartame
-- is heat stable to maintain its sweetness at high temperatures
-- is granulated for even consistency in baked goods
-- shares the same baking and cooking properties of sugar
-- tastes just like natural sugar
-- has no aftertaste

``DiabetiSweet `Measure for Measure' is the only sugar substitute that looks like sugar, tastes like sugar and cooks like sugar,' said Gary April, president of Health
Care Products. ``For the first time, diabetes sufferers and other health conscious consumers can enjoy desserts, baked goods and other sweet foods without the
health concerns.'

DiabetiSweet ``Measure for Measure' contains Sunette (acesulfame k), a high-intensity sweetener, and Isomalt, a sweetener and bulking agent that allows
DiabetiSweet to maintain sweetness in high heat. DiabetiSweet contains no hidden forms of sugar like sorbitol, fructose or dextrose so it is completely safe for use
by diabetes sufferers. In addition, DiabetiSweet does not contain sodium (salt), saccharin, aspartame or maltodextrin.

DiabetiSweet ``Measure for Measure' is currently available at retailers nationwide in eight-ounce packages and individual packets.

Hi-Tech Pharmacal is a specialty pharmaceutical manufacturer of both branded and generic prescription, over-the-counter and nutritional products for the general
health industry. The company's subsidiary, Health Care Products, manufactures and markets DiabetiSweet and a broad line of products designed to help individuals
with diabetes and health-conscious consumers lead healthier lives, including the market leading Diabetic Tussin cough and cold remedies. For more information on
DiabetiSweet ``Measure for Measure,' or any HCP product, contact the company at 800/899-3116 or visit their website at diabeticproducts.com.
