Precis Smart Card Systems IPO Jan. 2000 at $6 a share. precis-scs.com Precis is engaged in smart card technology. They embed a microprocessor in a credit-card allowing it to store and process account information and activity, marketing preferences, medical records/history and other personal data-intensive functions that can be modified and updated. This is a multi-billion dollar market worldwide. Another company, Upgrade (UPGD) is also mobilizing to exploit this large market, and has seen it's share price go from 3 to 90 during the latter part of 1999. Precis should do very well, but will likely be a sleeper for a while until the 'sector' is identified and recognized by the markets. Bank of America is partnering with them for some pilot projects, which should lend some good credibility. | ||||||||||||
