See if you fit into this category. I'm betting 99% of you do. I'm only mentioning this because I'm getting sick and tired of seeing you idiots back into shit.. Mainly ME!!!!!!!

Let's use some common sense..

c.horn's Pet Peeve
Numero ocho:

Most people adjust their side view mirrors so they can see the side of the car on the inside edge of the mirror. This is incorrect. If you do this, you should consider yourself A LOSER! You know where the side of your car is, so why do you need to see it? Dumbass! Pulling the side view mirrors in too far limits your rear visibility and greatly overlaps what you can see through your rear view mirror.

The proper setting for side view mirrors is to adjust them slightly beyond the point where you can see the side of the car on the inside edge of the mirror. Positioned in this way, you can see more and remove one of the critical blind spots.

The majority of drivers do not set their mirrors properly. Want proof? Pull up behind a car and look in their mirrors. If you can see their eyes in all three mirrors, they have it all wrong. They should be considered imbeciles. Non-MENSA material. When set correctly, there is no such thing as a blind spot. 99% of drivers have their rearview and side view mirrors all facing rearward- showing them exacly the same thing. Come on people! You don't have 3 mirrors so you can see the same view convienently depending on which way you feel like glancing. Your side mirrors should be at an angle that shows you your "blind spot" and you use your rear view for looking behind you. When your side mirrors are right, you can NOT see the side of your vehicle - in fact not even close.

The right way to adjust them is to put your head against the glass and then adjust your mirror so that you can JUST see the side of your car. It ends up being off by something like 30 or 40 degrees with your head in the normal driving position. People are amazed (and don't believe it's right) when I show them this. Here's how I usually show them it really works (I have shown this to dozens of people, and have yet to find one who knew about it before I showed them - usually because their parents did it wrong - AND they are complete and utter idiots. Everyone has agreed that it's right after trying it.

I have them pull over to the shoulder and adjust the mirrors the way I suggest. Rear view faces aft. Side mirrors face off at odd angles and do not view behind the car. It takes a bit of fiddling to get the sides proper. Ok, now watch that car behind you in your rearview. As soon as it gets to the edge of your rearview, look in your side view. it just appeared in your side view? Kewl! There was no blind spot between the two - now as soon as the car gets to the other edge of your sideview, with your head still facing straight ahead, check your periperhal vision. Hey! there's the car! Wow, maybe you aren't an idiot after all! It's starting to sink in to your thick neanderthal skull! It went from behind you in your rearview to beside you in your peripheral vision. You never moved your head and you could see it the entire time. Neat eh? What were you saying about a blind spot? If this dosen't happen, you need to adjust the side mirror. I could also have my cat set it properly for you, as he is obviously brighter. When set right, you can stare straight ahead and watch a car come up behind you and pass you completely with your peripheral vision, using your mirrors, without ever having to even move your eyes.

Now why didn't everyone learn this in driver education classes? Ugh.
