Charts on SI. Worth it?
An SI Board Since September 2004

There has been a huge outcry, mostly among free members, but some grandfathered and lifetime members have also weighed in, wanting SI's old charting system back.

I don't know if it'll be possible to bring those back (I've contacted InfoSpace) or find a comparable replacement (I've contacted a 3rd-party provider), but I'm seeing what can be done.

I've said before that I only want to be the best message-board in existence. Not the best chart site. Not the best portfolio site. And certainly not a Hotmail/Yahoo mail/GMail competitor.

However, I always temper that with "What does the community want?" I've got a different charts provider on this version of SI and even with my limited knowledge of charts, I know theirs don't hold a candle to SI's old charts. I have, however, contacted them to see if they are capable of and willing to offer a comparable version.

So, this thread is for discussing Charts on SI.

What I'd like to find out from members of our site is how important the old charts were and if there are a lot of members who would be willing to pay extra to have access to such charts again. I have no idea how much extra and won't know until I have an idea how many people would be willing to pony up, and what it will cost to be able to provide such charts.

One thing I do know, though, is that the outcry over the old charts does appear to be another instance of a minority sounding like a majority because they've cranked up the decibels.

On the old system, all of the items under the "Research" tab (including charts and quotes) comprised just under 10% of the site's total traffic. A minority of traffic, but still a substantial amount.
