This forum will investigate veritas -- Latin for "truth." Specifically, we will seek truth as it applies to the information age and web-related stocks. The market seems to group them together, but in reality, some will fly, many will falter. The mainstream market won't know which ones will be which until it is too late. We, being the Webbers, will. Most everyone who can get here knows more about The Net than the people down at the market. We know what's going on, we know what's going to fly and what won't, and best of all, we know now what they are going to hear about in the future. Most of us are young and don't have a whole lot of money to invest, but all of us have an opportunity here to make some cash off of what we do have to put up for the fun. Here is my personal portfolio at this time, leaving out the non-Info Age stocks (which is only one stock): Long: Infoseek (SEEK). Short: E*TRADE (EGRP), CompuServe (CSRV), Yahoo (YHOO), Excite (XCIT). I'm not really bearish on the market overall, my SEEK investment is larger than any of my shorts. However, I think it is easier to see what sucks and doesn't have a future than what is going to do well in "the new age." The market doesn't seem to know that these stocks suck yet. The four stocks I have shorted deserve to all die PC Quote-like deaths. Can anyone give some more examples of these kinds of stocks? Someone down there knows what is going on -- they have all been experiencing recent declines. But if "truth" prevails, they deserve to be a fraction of their current prices. Don't you wish you had shorted PC Quote before the market realized it wasn't unique and it came tumbling down? Well, we still have the opportunity to foresee occurences like these because we are the ones who use The Net every day and see the new technology in action. When we see something that is, in fact, leading the way into the Information Age, and it happens to be publicly traded (like SEEK), we will also know this before the market does. We can make money off the market from both sides. The best thing about investing in these stocks is that you don't have to do all sorts of weird research like you would a high-tech issue. It's all in front of you on The Net, (though you should look at the financial situation a little before investing). The Information Age is coming if it is not already here, and not only will it be fun, it will be profitable if we pay attention! Happy investing and may we all be rich!
