I see you and Sully have done counts covering different periods of time, I sure. And come up with somewhat different conclusions. It appears plenty of people on both sides use words like traitor, unpatriotic, unAmerican and so on. My main point is that people on the left are mistaken to say it is something which only happens to them.

It seems to me that conservatives tend to use terms like this in response to specific actions - like Kerry going to Paris to meet with North Vietnamese representatives during the VN war, or Kerry's overblown testimony about war atrocities committed by Americans in VN, or the NY Times exposing programs monitoring terrorist financing and communications. While the leftwingers who use these terms do so on the basis that simply supporting the Bush administration or the war effort is inherently unpatriotic, traitorous, etc.

I will agree with one thing for sure and that's that EV belongs in a category of his own.

Certainly he could be called very far-right (based on his past David Duke support) but for a long time almost all the people he allies with on SI are leftwing.

Which brings up another issue re. left vs right wing. Twice in the past week, I've been asked whether I was Israeli by a leftwinger on SI (and I think they meant the question as an insult). And the preceding issues being discussed had nothing to do with Israel - unless you buy the whole Bush administration as neocon (ie. Jewish) pawns conspiracy theory. It seems obvious to me that hostility to Jews is getting rampant on the left.

Your search was flawed. I know because I use the same search engine. Searching on the word "traitors" simply reduces the number of hits. SI's search engin will pick up both "traitor" & "traitors" when you search on the word "traitor".

No matter how you slice it, libs still use traitor(s) far more often than conservatives as an epithet. At least when conservatives use it, there are a fair number of instances where it is applied to acts or people that fit the definition, IE, Kerry's meeting with the enemy twice while still an officer in the military, his involvement in an assassination plot against US Senators & Kerry's false war crimes allegations under oath to the Senate, ET AL. - Gore's, "He betrayed this country!" ET AL, - the NYT & other MSM outlets aiding & abbeting the enemy by illegally leaking classified info, ET AL.

Libs throw traitor out on things like the "Bush leid" meme. IOW, they cling to a misguided belief in a thoroughly discredited lie somehow justifies calling someone a traitor.

And libs far more often allege they have been called a traitor or are considered a traitor (sans any proof) far more often than conservatives.
