the fact that Obama can pretty much count on all the Kerry states means he is in a great position to win. He also has Iowa up 9 pts so thats a shoo in.

Kerry almost won.

Had McCain picked a more moderate VP, the McCain camp might have had a chance at getting a Kerry state, with McCains maverick image. But they went with Palin which just divided the country again so that means the Kerry states are blue and Obama needs ONE more state. I can't see how McCain can win this unless he continues to gain dramatically in the polls or starts to take PA.

Both candidates are broadcasting negative ads in Wisconsin. Obama is on more often because he is spending more money, but otherwise I do not see a difference here.

Obama had a clear lead a number of weeks back. When McCain started going negative, the lead evaporated.

If McCain wins, it will reinforce that old adage that negative campaigning works. We'll be subjected to it until someone breaks that cycle. Obama is running a clean campaign (although there are a lot of fed-up angry lefties who are slinging mud), but if he wins, we all win.

The disintegration of the strong lead is directly correlated with nasty attacks on Sarah Palin. That seems to be dieing down a little and we've all noticed at the end of the feeding frenzy what happened to the lead. There is no denying that now. The momentum is less now that everyone is calming down but you created a Martyr and it may be too late to refocus. Anything could happen though.

The change occurred because of the convention and Sarah Palin's popularity.

Obama is no more running a clean campaign than anyone else. Amazingly he's concentrating on Palin rather than McCain.

Not smart, but okay with me.
