On the "Signs of the Times" I believe that in considering whether we are, indeed, in the last days (or end times) we should consider what there is, if anything, that sets this generation apart from past generations and, most importantly, that comports with what is described in the scriptures. For example, Revelation 13:16-17 says: "He also forced everyone, small and great, rich and poor, free and slave, to receive a mark on his right hand or on his forehead, so that no one could buy or sell unless he had the mark, which is the name of the beast or the number of his name." It would be very important and insightful to consider whether it is possible to fulfill this passage. To the extent it is not possible to fulfill this (and other passages) there are still prophetic events which must happen. I submit that for all the history of mankind this passage was not able to be fulfilled until the latter part of the 20th century, but that there are still things which must occur before it is possible for the Antichrist to achieve what is written about in the above-quoted passage. To fulfill these scriptures, the Antichrist will have to: 1. Have complete control, including communications with, the entire population of the world. There is not yet complete control, but there is phenominal worldwide communication, which is getting better everyday. 2. Have a way to keep track of people to prevent their purchases, and to otherwise enforce his edict. This, we now know, requires computers. The computer system is no problem even with current technology, but it only became possible within the last few years. 3. Have a unified world economy. Here is where this passage falls significantly short today. There is not yet a unified worldwide economy which can fall under the control of the Antichrist. However, it does appear to be coming. Follow the "global economy" and you will have important insights into when this passage can be fulfilled. There are other such passages which we should examine to determine whether they are possible to be fulfilled given today's technology and governmental, economic, sociological, etc. considerations. If they are not able to be fulfilled today, we might want to discuss what must happen for them to be fulfilled. Such discussion will help those who are interested in knowing where we stand today in the prophetic timetable. In Christ, Tom

WT, Our world now has technological advances that will send a shiver up your spine but our emotional development has not kept up with the growth of the advances made in many fields. Scientists can now create an identical person through cloning. They probably could have a 'baby in a test tube were they so inclined. I believe it is entirely possible that Iran now has an Atomic bomb. They can be made the size of a suitcase and destroy a city. Many terrorist nations have made 'soups' that carry deadly diseases that can also kill millions. I just believe that our civilization is closer to the edge of destruction than ever before. James

I have always understood from a prophetic standpoint that the prophetic clock started ticking again when the nation of Israel was reformed in 1948. By coincidence I was born in that year. Therefore if what I say is true my generation will not all pass from the earth before the fulfillment of end time prophecy. Let's assume that the oldest person when he or she dies and was also born in the year 1948 will be 125 years old. That would put these events happening before the year 2073. Lets assume that a generation is the 3 score and ten of biblical proportions. This would place all of the end time events happening before 2018. Even worldly, non Christian psychics and sears place catastropic events happening in the time frame of 2002 to 2012. If we knew exactly what the meaning of "this generation" means we could all be prophets. Also , from a prophetic standpoint I always thought that the rebuilding of Solomon's temple was a necessary prerequisite. None the less over 90% of all the people that have ever lived are currently living and alive today, so back up the bus and start loading the "salvation express". The harvest is plentiful; the workers are scarce. The glorious body of Christ will usher out the church age with a successful harvest, amen... In Christ.gregor

Hi WT, The reason I believe it to be near is the rebirth of Israel that has taken nearly 2000 years. Others do not believe that to be important but there are many verses that point to this event as pivotal. But still only the Father in heaven knows the exact hour we only can read the signs of the times and should never make definate predicrions, for many have discredited the scriptures and the Gospel with false predictions. Working on our walk and relationship with the Lord is more important but He also gave us prohpesies for a reason. Have a great day in the Lord, Nancy
