Accelerated Networks wants to speed things
up. The company makes equipment that
telecommunications providers use to send
voice and data over broadband networks. Its
voice gateways convert voice signals from
broadband networks into the format recognized
by standard phone networks, and its
concentrators aggregate individual broadband
lines into high-speed uplinks. Accelerated
Networks also makes devices that combine
voice and data transmissions and the systems
used to manage networks. The company sells
directly and through other manufacturers and
integrators to telecom providers like CTC
Communications (54% of sales), FirstWorld
Communications (20%), and MCI WorldCom.
Siemens, also a customer, owns 20% of the
company.
