Microsoft is Not the Enemy. Despite all the bad press and all the allegations.. Microsoft never lost in DC with all these attempts to break them up. They never once lost. And of course, they weren't going to lose this one either. And as for competition and choice there is something ironic about the most powerful concentration of power in the world, and that's the US Government, Not MicroSoft , complaining that Microsoft is a monopoly. I have to laugh when I hear this. And I get a little infuriated. When I hear guys like John Conyers and the rest of these Liberal Democrats start talking about the monopoly, that is Microsoft. They run the world's largest monopoly!!!! The US Government!!! MicroSoft does not threaten my basic civil rights or constitutional values nor yours.. Microsoft can not raise my taxes.. Washington Does! Microsoft cannot do one thing to impact the way you leave your fortune or your estate to your family.. Microsoft has not a word to say about whether or not you as a farmer in Klameth Falls Colorado are allowed to get enough water for your crops to keep your farm going.. The Federal Government does. This is what never ceases to amaze me. We have an omnipotent, monopolistic Federal Government that often laughs at individual liberties and civil rights. And yet there are people running around afraid of outfits like Microsoft.. For crying out loud!!! Microsoft is nothing more than a choice that people make. You do not have to use Microsoft Products if you don't want to and be in the computer market. You don't have to. But in so much of life today you have to go through the federal government for permission to just do about anything. And the idea that there is a monopoly out there that is somehow harmful to Americans and the federal government escapes that classification is beyond me. I wish we would focus more on breaking up parts of the massive federal bureaucracy through privatization and devolution. I would love to really get serious about breaking up social security. I would love to really get serious about breaking up the great society of medicaid and medicare. You can't tell me that the private sector couldn't administer these programs much better, much more efficiently, and with much more greater results than the federal government does. You just can't convince me because I've got 30+ years of evidence of federal government failure to back up my claim on this. And yet.. you mention this to people and you get, "Hey C you're right, I haven't thought of it that way." Of course you haven't thought of it that way because everyday you're filled with this notion that the federal government is all knowing, all caring, all loving, all this, all that, all benevolent.. I have no doubt that the individual members and employees of the federal government are good people.. Don't get me wrong there. I'm just gonna tell you that if we're gonna sit around and talk about how we've got to bust up all these private American corporations, then I think it's only right that we start talking about busting up certain aspects of the federal government that we know have failed. Where do we go when the Great Society bombs out? Where is the customer service window when all the money (6 Trillion Dollars) that has been taken from us and transfered to others and hasn't worked? Where do we go? There is no customer service window. In fact if we raise the point we are considered to be cold hearted mean spirited cruel and vicious. What we need to do is to get serious about limiting the size of the federal government as contemplated by the founders of our constitution and this great country. We certainly need to be more worried about limiting the size of the federal government than we do about some computer software maker for crying out loud. If you don't like Microsoft then go buy from Apple.. And if you don't want to pay for more and more federal programs? Tough luck. You've got no choice in the matter. That's a Monopoly!!!! Good Luck; C | ||||||||||||
