I opened this thread to find out the truth of internet connection speeds ...mainly via modem. I want to take a poll on how fast modem users are connecting to the internet today.

With all the hype over the 56K modems these days, i find it hard to belive that it is as cut and dry as some make it seem.

I personally have had several modems over the past few years, the lastest being a 33.6K version, and have yet to achieve any connection above 28.8K. I also have been asking around and hear the same thing wherever i go. "Its the phone lines stupid"....

I get a 28.8 connection about 10% - 25% of the time. The rest of the time its 26.4, 24.0K, etc. .....and remember this is with a 33.6 modem and my ISP is also 33.6K compliant.

"How fast are you going today?"

Let the tally begin. Location, pop. density, time, are things we all must consider in our findings.
