This thread is dedicated to the Contrarian Investor.

Here, we will focus on issues that have extraordinary characteristics, based on fundamental value. Such issues generally will be overlooked or over-sponsored by institutions, and it is the focus of the thread to identify and profit from the coming turn in the company's fortunes and stock prices.

Necessary to achieve success is a solid understanding of fundamental analysis: an understanding of company-specific economics, business strategy, competitive landscape, and of course, its financial statements will be needed to make our decisions.

In addition, an understanding of technical analysis will also be necessary, as it will serve to ensure an appropriate entry and exit point for both long and short positions. There is nothing more useful than harnessing the massive information processing power of the market to help affirm or reject our analysis of a company. The primary purpose of technical analysis here is to make sure one's position is not prematurely established, in addition to helping manage one's portfolio risk.

Books I recommend to help one's investment decisions are as follows:

1. Contrarian Investment Strategies: The Next Generation by David Dreman.
2. Financial Warnings by Charles Mulford and Eugene Comiskey.
3. Business Strategy and Security Analysis by Raymond Suutari.
