My wife wants to see an opera, L'elisir d'amore (Elixir of Love by Donizetti)

I don't know why an earth anyone wants to see opera, but since it's her birthday, I have to be nice to her.

If I have to go to an opera, might as well enjoy it.
I never been to an opera.
Could someone please help me out?

How can I enjoy opera with out falling asleep?

HELP, I have one week to prepare.
