MSFT: new NT kills CPU makers.

For years Microsoft and Intel have together controlled the standards
for the PC, Microsoft for the operating system and Intel for the
platform to run it on. With Microsoft's projected release of a
version of NT which runs on non-Intel platforms, this may be coming
to an end.

If the new version of NT works as well on other systems as it does on
Intel-standard chips, then what does this mean for Intel, Sun,
Motorola, etc? Will Microsoft's move to make its operating system
hardware independent spell the demise of Intel's monopoly on PC-
standard hardware? Who will be the winner in the new regime? Only
Microsoft, or will Intel or some other hardware manufacturer be able
to compete?
